Engineering Jobs In Illinois

Engineering Jobs Information

The world of engineering is often thought to be filled with math and science geniuses who were always considered to be the smartest among all the students when they were still in school. There was a time when an engineer would simply define himself as such but with the influx of disciplines that fall under engineering, one would now have to classify themselves according to the discipline they specialize in. There are nearly 30 engineering disciplines and each one demands a different set of skills and qualifications as far as engineering jobs are concerned. The kinds of engineering disciplines are as follows: software, sales, quality, process, nuclear, mechanical mining, manufacturing, industrial, environmental, electrical, construction, civil, chemical, architectural, agricultural, aerospace, biomedical, materials, marine, network, petroleum, project, safety, solar, systems, structural.

Jobs in the engineering industry have proven to be quite popular due to the prestige that is often attached to the title “engineer”, same as that of “lawyer” or “doctor”, and remuneration has always been thought to be highly competitive. This is also why engineering is one of the more in-demand college courses and why receiving the right kind of education and training is a requirement when applying for an engineering job. While it is possible to apply for engineering jobs even without a degree in engineering, since some employers are more than willing to accept applicants who have those with an associate’s degree or a certification, a bachelor’s degree can definitely improve your chances in being accepted for the position you are applying. Applicants with advanced degrees can use it as proof that they have the know-how to take on more complex jobs and responsibilities.

Another requirement in your application for an engineering job is having an engineering license. The first thing you will need to do is graduate with your engineering degree, after which you will receive your Engineers in Training or EIT certificate and then take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam and meet the minimum score. You will then need to have at least four years of engineering experience then take and pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam, and meet all eligibility requirements in your particular state. Only then will you be able to register as a professional engineer in your state. Becoming a licensed engineer will provide you the opportunity to be accepted for higher paying engineering jobs and more complex projects.
