Distribution And Shipping Jobs Information

You find yourself in a quandary, desperately searching for a job but you are not sure what field or industry you want to get into. Well, have you ever considered getting into distribution, specifically, shipping? There are several distribution and shipping jobs that you can apply for and they will not require you to slip into Navy whites and salute while saying, “Aye, aye, Captain!” After all, the shipping industry is focused on the distribution of goods and parcels from one location to another by means of land, air, or sea transportation and while things can be shipped on an actual ship, being a sailor is different from the various jobs in shipping.

The distribution and shipping jobs available for you can be categorized into three separate departments:

1. Office – Positions that require you to be in the company’s office can require you to accomplish a variety of job responsibilities. One of the responsibilities includes accepting shipping orders from clients and this means you would need to take down all the important information, such as the name and address of the individual who will be receiving the shipment and the name and address of the individual who is sending the shipment. Another responsibility is weighing the shipment to make sure that the corresponding fees are charged appropriately. You may also be required to properly label the shipment.

2. Warehouse – Positions that require you to be in the company’s warehouse can prove to be more laborious compared to those in the office. Warehouse personnel would be required to make sure that each shipment’s information is cross-checked with their labels. They would also need to ensure that the delivery personnel are given the correct shipment with the corresponding documentation and they need to check with the delivery personnel that the documentation has been signed by the recipient and returned to the warehouse. Other warehouse personnel may be asked to do the actual collection of items and to package them, making them ready for distribution.

3. Delivery – Positions that require you to deliver each package or shipment will mean you need to constantly be on the move. Delivery personnel are required to ensure that a package is delivered promptly and in good condition and that it is received by the correct party.

Distribution and shipping jobs differ but provide a much-needed service that individuals and businesses require in order to meet respective expectations.
