How to Jumpstart Your Career as an Online Writer

A lot of people are aspiring to have a career as writers but haven’t a single clue where to start looking for writing jobs. There is actually a great need for writers these days from simple blogs to research to essays and dissertations. All one needs to know is where to start looking.

For beginners only

If you are a student aspiring to be a writer, the best place to start is your school newsletter. Although you cannot expect to be paid for this, you can acquire a lot of knowledge out of the experience. Budding writers can also get their start in their local community newspaper. Submit one or two of your work for publication and, to sweeten the deal, tell the editor that they are for free. However, you can start to be a regular writer and receive payment once your work gets positive feedback from the readers.

Writers with published works are preferred by editors over the new ones so don’t lose hope easily. If you have to work cheap, or sometimes for free, if only to establish your reputation and build a hefty collection of your published works, then do it. Don’t get discouraged; things will change in no time. Once you get your name out, you can expect better remuneration for your written work.

Work online

Blogging has become a popular way for writers to get their work read and earn money online. Blog earnings can range from a few cents to hundreds of dollars. There are also a lot of paid online writing jobs advertised on the internet. Paid projects include writing for web content, products and web site reviews, forum posting, press releases and article writing.

Use the search engines to look for the kind of writing job you are good at. Typing in “article writer wanted” or “writing jobs” will produce a great number of results. There are free sites and ones with paid membership that can offer lots of paid writing jobs. Register only with the free sites. You don’t have to pay for job opportunity information which you can get for free.

Professionalism at work

Learn to meet deadlines. Accept only the works you are good at so you can submit them on time. Submitting your work on time tells your publisher that you can be relied upon.

Be practical. Working with a big time publishing company may sound glamorous but the opportunities are few and far between. Online writing jobs are a convenient way to a full-time or part-time income. The good news is there is plenty of it to go around.
